Day 4: Colorado Serum Company by Sean

Today our first stop was the Colorado Serum Company. They were founded in 1924 making them over 100 years old! They first started off making vaccines for swine but once that disease became eradicated they switched over to other animals. They still do swine but a majority of the vaccines are for goat and sheep. They make live vaccines, anti-serums and killed virus vaccines. They only make large animal vaccines like cows and sheep. They do not do any dog or cat vaccines. They are the only company to make the anthrax vaccine. They have multiple laboratories and buildings on their 22 acre facility. On their 22 acre facility they have 105 horses, 80 sheep, 20 goats and 95 Holstein steers. These animals are used to help to develop vaccines. They are located in the heart of the Denver area. They are directly regulated by the USDA. Another cool thing they make are the implementation guns for growth hormones and multi-dose syringes. They also make a variety of other medications for other company’s and over seas company’s, all to make the animal science industry better. We appreciate Mr. Joe Huff sharing what his company does.
